EMSB schools to mark Remembrance Day throughout November
Schools across the English Montreal School Board will commemorate Remembrance Day on the following days:
Friday, November 1:
Edward Murphy School (6800 Pierre de Coubertin) in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve will mark Remembrance Day by honoring veterans and current Canadian Forces Members. The school will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Italian Campaign and D-Day as well as peacekeeping missions abroad. Current Canadian Forces members and veterans will be present to commemorate the three generations of Canadians who took part in the 20th century wars. Monday, November 4:
Students from Edward Murphy School and General Vanier Elementary School will mark Remembrance Day at the National Field of Honour in Pointe Claire. Students will be placing poppies on the graves and headstones of more than 17,000 Canadian soldiers and allies that have been laid to rest. As students place their poppies, they will take time to read the names of those who lay in the Field of Honour, allowing them to develop a deeper connection to the brave men and women who lost their lives defending Canada. Nesbitt Elementary School (6108 8th Avenue) in Rosemount will commemorate Remembrance Day through poetry, reflections, the lighting of peace candles, and prayers - all with the important message to promote peace in our world. The interactive presentation will include the origins of the poppy, a reading of "In Flanders Fields", a minute of silence and the singing of O Canada. The ceremony will mark a pivotal year in the Allied fight for freedom in the Second World War. There will be unique tributes to mark the 75th anniversary of the battles of Monte Cassino, Kohima and Imphal and D-Day.
Students will also hear testimonials from Major (Retired) Christian Beaudin; Sergeant John Petrou; Sergeant Serge Dubé, Canadian Grenadier Guards; Eric Dion, Recruiting Sergeant from 34th Signals Regiment; Canadian Forces Corporal Aron Doyle; the 438 Tactical Helicopter Squadron and Pipe Major Cameron Steven.

Tuesday, November 5:
Rosemount High School (3737 Beaubien) will mark a pivotal year in the Allied fight for freedom in the Second World War. There will be unique tributes to mark the 75th anniversary of the battles of Monte Cassino, Kohima and Imphal and D-Day.
The ceremony will serve as an opportunity for students and staff to pay tribute to and remember in prayer, words, and music those who have died in the fight for freedom. The ceremony will also include lighting of the peace candles, a minute of silence, the Last Post and reveille. The experience will provide the opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made, past and present, and on the role we each individually can and must play in creating peace in our world.
In attendance will be Captain Kevin Camire; The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada; Sergeant John Petrou; Eric Dion, Canadian Grenadier Guards; Sergeant Serge Dubé; Corporal Aron Doyle and Pipe Major Cameron Stevens.

Students from General Vanier Elementary School will take part in a special Remembrance Day Ceremony and community lunch at Ste Anne's Veteran's Hospital. A special guest for the ceremony will be Willie Glazer, a 99-year-old Holocaust survivor and Canadian veteran.
Following the ceremony, students will be able to partake in two intimate and interactive sessions with both a Holocaust Survivor and Canadian Forces members.
