EMSB to stagger return to class for high school students

Montreal - Thursday, March 25, 2021

The English Montreal School Board is advising parents and guardians of high school students that a staggered return to daily attendance will begin on Monday, March 29,  2021.

The Quebec government has issued a directive that students in Secondary III, IV and V are to return to school full-time as of Monday in red zones. This would mean that the hybrid model of attending school on alternating days for these students, as it is the case currently, would no longer apply.

After careful deliberation, the EMSB has decided to stagger the return to school for the grades affected by this new directive. This will allow for the schools to properly plan and prepare for the full-time integration of secondary students in EMSB buildings. It will also allow the Board to take into consideration the specificities of each school. As such, only the Secondary III  students will return to class in person on Monday.

“We will be working diligently to prepare for a safe return of our students in Secondary IV  and V,” stated EMSB Interim Director General Russell Copeman. “A communication with more details will be sent next week once we feel we are ready to welcome everyone back safely. Please rest assured that the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community remains our top priority.”
